Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival has grown into my favorite special event at Disney. It has beautiful flowers and yummy food; plus the crowds aren’t as bad as the Food and Wine event. Plus, the festival lasts until the end of May this year!
I attended a gardening seminar at the Festival Center and it was so much fun. The host, Tom MacCubin is knowledgeable and did a great job as the speaker. I found out Tom is the only person that has hosted a seminar every year since the Flower & Garden Festival started in 1994! They even presented him with a Mickey award while we were there. He was funny and interacted with the group to keep everyone entertained. He did trivia, asked for volunteers for a couple things and was giving away prizes throughout the event. We learned a bunch of information about edible landscape and had lots of laughs.
When you arrive they hand you this cute tote bag and escort you to your seat. Wait, a free tote bag from Disney?! Yup!
There was also a blueberry plant set up on the tables that we got take home with us. It came with instructions on how to take care of it. All this is included with your park admission!! The tote bag worked out great to take my plant home in.
These seminars are called Fun Fresh Weekends. Available Friday, Saturday and Sunday during Flower & Garden Festival, they are located in the Festival Center. You can find the schedule of events here. Look for seminars located at the Greenhouse Stage to find the ones with the freebies.
You will need to go to the Festival Center to get a ticket for this event. It’s free but they could run out of tickets depending on how busy it is. When you enter the Festival Center, go down the ramp and turn left. Look for the Greenhouse Stage, it is labeled pretty clearly. There should be a cast member standing at the entrance and you can get your ticket from him or her.
You should try and get to the seminar around 20 mins before so you can get seated. Our host started answering questions from the crowd 15 mins before the start time.
There are lots of other things to do at the Festival Center; take your time to look around. You can even get food and drink. The prices of alcohol are much lower compared to the stands in the World Showcase. I even found these great couches with foot rests to the right of the bar. Why not wait for your seminar with your feet up and a drink in your hand enjoying the AC?
I look forward to going to more of these seminars and watching the plants and flowers grow as the festival goes on.
P.S. – If you are a passholder don’t forget to collect all three special edition prints!
